SIGMA ANNOUNCES ITS 2008 SUMMER LEGISLATIVE MEETING
|
WASHINGTON April 3, 2008 Members of the Society of Independent Gasoline Marketers of America (SIGMA) will assemble in Washington, D.C. on July 15-16, 2008 for the annual SIGMA Legislative Meeting, held at the Park Hyatt Washington Hotel.
“Educating Congressional members about issues we face daily is what is needed for motor fuel marketers to be able to sustain business as well as to ensure that their voice is heard on Capitol Hill,” said Carl Boyett, Chairman of SIGMA’s Legislative Committee.
SIGMA members will focus on a variety of legislative issues that are pertinent to marketers businesses. This year’s debate will address three key issues for SIGMA members: (1) Temperature Correction at Retail; (2) FDA Regulation of Tobacco; (3) Credit Card Interchange Fees.
“The 110th Congress will shape public policies that directly affect our member’s ability to compete within the motor fuel industry,” Boyett said. “Hearing from motor fuel marketers regarding the effect legislation would have on business is crucial because if new regulations are set and inadequate funding is allotted fellow markets could face serious issues.”
SIGMA members represent 31 percent of the U.S. motor fuel industry. In July, approximately 200 Congressional members will meet with SIGMA motor fuel marketers from their districts to learn about issues they face as business owners in their communities. For more information, including registration forms, please contact SIGMA at (703) 709-7000 or visit www.sigma.org.
