Differing provisions in the House & Senate Energy Policy Set the Stage for
the UltimateShowdownMarketers’ Voices Need to be Heard.

WASHINGTON, June 28, 2005 TThe Society of Independent Gasoline Marketers of America (SIGMA) anticipates a heated debate between House and Senate conferees addressing controversial issues in The Energy Bill. The Senate passed this legislation on Tuesday by a vote of 85-12, moving the policy into the ultimate conference showdown, slated for mid-to-late July.
“The House and Senate versions of this legislation differ greatly and issues will need to be hammered out,” said Kenneth Doyle, SIGMA’s executive vice president, “specifically MTBE liability and the amount and distribution of tax incentives.”
There will be a lot on the line for motor fuel marketers during the upcoming conference debate and SIGMA encourages all motor fuel marketers to participate in this year’s Summer Legislative Meeting and Lobby Day on the Hill (July 19-20). Make your voice heard by being in Washington, D.C. at this pivotal decision-making opportunitywhen legislators will duke it out on the pertinent issues that concern motor fuel marketers during the Energy Bill conference.
