Lawrence O’ Donnell, Jr.

Lawrence O’ Donnell, Jr.
Emmy Winning Executive Producer &
Senior Political Analyst, MSNBC.

Lawrence O’Donnell is an Emmy-Winning Executive Producer, a Senior Political Analyst on MSNBC, and a panelist on the McLaughlin Group. As Executive Producer of NBC’s The West Wing, he won numerous awards, including the 2000 Humanitas Prize for writing that “communicates those values which most enrich the human person” for an episode he co-wrote with Aaron Sorkin on the death penalty. O’Donnell speaks about politics on television, the effects of rhetoric on a world audience, and the differences between campaigning and governing.

During the election year 2000, he was a contributing editor of New York Magazine with a column on national politics. From 1993 through 1995, he was the Democratic Chief of Staff of the United States Senate Committee on Finance. The Committee has jurisdiction over legislation involving taxation, international trade, health care, social security, Welfare, and other income security programs. In 1992, Lawrence was Chief of Staff of the United States Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works.

From 1989 until 1992, he served as Senior Advisor to Senator Daniel Patrick Moynihan. He began his professional association with Senator Moynihan as Director of Communications in the Senator’s 1988 re-election campaign. A writer prior to entering politics and government, he published the book Deadly Force, which was adapted as a CBS movie. He has written essays and articles for several publications including The New York Times, New York Magazine, People, Spy, and Boston Magazine.

A viewer, a voter, a policy driver. O’Donnell has also appeared on The Today Show, Good Morning America, Nightline, Charlie Rose, and many other programs. His lectures are exciting trips into the realm of politics on a global, televised stage. The power of media is growing, frames today’s candidate more than ever, and provides a pedestal from which political messages are broadcast. Lawrence O’Donnell, working from experience as a commentator, policy driver, and traditional voter, speaks as an authority on all three fronts.
