I think you will agree that the strength of our association is drawn from the strength of our members.
I think you will also agree that our future prosperity will depend on continually attracting members that align with and support our values. If you do agree with those two statements, then you understand that all of us collectively are the lifeblood of our association. As we enter the spring season, we’ll be taking this to heart as SIGMA teams will be springing into action to help build our membership. Our membership committee and staff developed a plan in 2006 that is ready to roll--the Membership Blitz Strategy. Over the remaining months of 2007, teams of SIGMA members in regional clusters will join forces with our development director, Marilyn Selvitelle, to take SIGMA to the streets! Our target? Prospective Members.
Adapted from the convenience instincts that drive so many of our businesses, these blitzes will conveniently allow prospective members to learn about the value of SIGMA membership without leaving home. This is a great way to share our stories with new folks that would benefit from all that SIGMA has to offer. If you are asked to assist with a blitz team, please make every effort to help. New member recruitment is a leadership activity that all of us must undertake if SIGMA is to remain strong. Your commitment to SIGMA is part of our muscle. Additionally, if there is someone that you think is a good fit for our association, please recommend them for membership. We may possibly pay them a visit in 2007!
While we are on the subject of membership, I want to invite all members to attend our meetings in 2007. While many of us attend both major conventions (Annual and Spring) and some of us only find time to attend one, there are members that are missing out on the outstanding opportunities that their membership in SIGMA provides. We stay informed with Weekly Report, IGM, and periodic Legislative Memos. We can also simply pick up the phone or email SIGMA counsel Tim Columbus with our legal questions. But there is nothing like just being there at one of our meetings. The SIGMA network is a key component to membership. There is no substitute for face-to-face interaction with your peers. The sheer mass of knowledge that our group possesses is amazing. You’d be remiss not to tap into this valuable resource you won’t find anywhere else.
If you have not attended a meeting recently, please consider registering today--you will find it an excellent use of your time. Between business and social networking, upgraded educational workshops, and solid industry information for your business, there are an abundance of unique experiences at any given SIGMA meeting. I hope to see you at a meeting soon. Let the networking begin…
