SIGMA WINTER COMMITTEE MEETINGS

SIGMA invites you to make your association even better by kicking this year off right at the Winter Committee Meetings coming up February 8-9, 2007 in Denver, Colorado at the Loers Hotel. This meeting provides an outlet for SIGMA members who show interest in our legislative efforts and growing a healthy organization to Get Involved! Via the committee structure, SIGMA provides every member with the opportunity to gain a voice in guiding the association’s policies and direction. After all, it is the time and energy contributed by the membership that makes SIGMA both successful and unique.

Some SIGMA committees and task forces involve in the day-to-day growth, operation and management of the association itself while others focus on specific industry topics. Committees and task forces meet at least two times a year, usually in conjunction with other SIGMA events. Between meetings, committee/task force members communicate via teleconference and electronic media to stay abreast of developments and continue committee work.

A SIGMA staff liaison is also assigned to support the efforts of each committee task force. SIGMA will provide ample time for the Communications, Education, Legislative, Marketer Operations, and Membership Committees to meet in Denver to really hammer out issues for the upcoming year. The newly created alternative fuels task force will also meet in Denver to discuss important issues facing motor fuel marketers in 2007!

The Winter Committee Meetings will feature the first of four legislative meetings held during 2007. This meeting is an open forum for your legislative issue ideas and your chance to prioritize SIGMA’s 2007 legislative agenda—an especially important task given the Democratic-controlled 110th Congress. The intimate setting of SIGMA’s winter meetings allows each attendee to give their personal input on our legislative direction.

Ensure your voice is heard on important issues coming down the pike in 2007. Like all other SIGMA meetings, it also provides ample opportunity to communicate and network with SIGMA leadership. The peer-to-peer sharing that takes place in Denver is led by the finest motor fuel marketers in the industry today. You cannot afford to miss this year’s Winter Committee Meetings.

Register today by filling out and returning the registration form, along with a sign up form for your choice of SIGMA’s committees/task forces. Don’t forget that following the Committee Meetings in Denver, you can join us for the SIGMA/NPN/OPIS Executive Leadership Conference in Aspen/Snowmass, Colorado, just a van ride away. Running from February 11-14, 2007, this is an evolving conference that mixes family and business with the best in education. Come to Aspen and learn from dynamic educational sessions that focus on new and innovative ways to effectively run your business.

There will be three days of in depth executive level education courses at this meeting. Known as an insightful and thought-provoking speaker, Philip K. Verleger, Jr., will share his views on what the U.S. oil markets might look like in the coming decade during a keynote session on Monday. Verleger is an expert on the economic structure of energy markets and the determination of energy prices. He is a former government official, faculty member at Yale, vice president at Drexel Burnham Lambert, and visiting fellow at the Institute for International Economics.

In addition, he has published many papers on the energy markets and has testified in a number of matters regarding the determination of prices, the structure of markets, and other issues related to markets. One of the first to recognize the importance of the creation of energy commodity markets, he consults regularly to firms in the oil and gas business. Plus, we will be repeating the Marketer CEO Roundtable, where 5 SIGMA marketers will share pieces of their business strategy for the coming year!

Other education sessions include: Common Hedging Mistakes, Improving Domestic Energy Security, The Right Financing for the Right Assets, and Business Analyst Nancy Yamaguchi on alternate fuels. In addition to these programs and present at any SIGMA function, the best learning opportunity is the chance to network with your peers. Whether it be over dinner, on the slopes, or at one of planned parties, you are certain to gain new perspectives from some of the brightest in the business!
