Best Practices & Market Research
Workshops: SIGMA Share Groups

The path to continued success is challenging. Staying on top of the best ways to operate your business — via innovative marketing, evolving technology and information analysis — at the lowest possible costs stretches even the best companies.

The SIGMA Best Practices Share Groups provide an interactive learning environment to continuously fine-tune your company’s business practices and processes through the collective knowledge of many companies. It’s a great way to learn from your peers, get the latest information on market data and discuss how to use it effectively. The purpose of each workshop is multifaceted.

THE LEARNING SESSIONS:
• Provide low cost ways to clarify the resource allocation decisions — both people and dollars — you face in a project or
business area.
• Fuel peer-to-peer discussion on key business areas — both success stories and lessons learned.
• Allow for broader market view of the product — both service and marketing options.
• Assist in the decision to pursue additional “How To” training or outsource.
• Develop a “Buddy Support Network” with peers.

SIGMA’s Spring Convention will be held April 27-30, 2006 at The Westin La Cantera Resort in San Antonio, which is a famous crossroads, making it the perfect place to meet! From celebrating San Antonio’s rich culture to participating in SIGMA’s valuable educational programming, the Spring Convention is a must attend for any motor fuel marketer.

“For nearly 20 years, I’ve benefited from the exceptional opportunity these meetings provide to spend quality time with our supply partners and industry peers,” said Richard Calhoun, Spring Convention Chairman and Vice President of Petroleum Supply & Training for QuikTrip Corporation, Tulsa, Okla. “I’m pleased to be working with SIGMA’s leadership, committees and staff to ensure the Spring Convention meets all expectations.”

In order to meet all of those expectations, SIGMA is dedicated to providing its members with cutting-edge, innovative and focused educational programs. Education sessions slated for San Antonio include: a fourhour Intensive ULSD Workshop, Hedging in the New Pricing Environment, Futures: Chicago Board Options Exchange, Biofuels & Effects on Motor Fuel Economics, and Competitive Marketing Strategies.

In addition, SIGMA’s Legislative Committee convenes at this meeting. During this session, committee members discuss what’s been happening in Congress and the activities of federal agencies that directly impact the motor fuel industry. Marketers will have the valuable opportunity to make their voice heard to help shape the future of SIGMA’s government relations initiatives.

In an exclusive pre-conference event, OPIS will be offering its Fuel Management University. This three-day course will feature executive training for managing the buying and selling of gasoline and diesel.

One of the greatest educational opportunities at any SIGMA meeting is the chance to learn from fellow successful marketers simply through business strategy conversations in the hallway passing by or at one of the many social events, from receptions to a game of golf. It is a great way to build networking base by meeting with suppliers and fellow marketers.

This year the SIGMA Open Scramble will be played on The Resort Course at the Westin La Cantera. Designed by Tom Weiskopf and Jay Morrish, this Troon Golf-managed 7,001-yard, par 72 championship course is home each year to a PGA Tour event.
