From its headquarters in suburban Washington, D.C., SIGMA engages in the legislative process in Congress and the regulatory process in the Executive branch, including independent agencies of the federal government.

Throughout the year, SIGMA plays an important role of informing, explaining, and interpreting laws and rules to its members. The association also offers comments and input on regulations that affect independent marketers. This serves the dual purpose of ensuring that lawmakers and regulators have valid data on which to base their decisions, while guaranteeing that the perspectives and opinions of independent marketers are heard.
