HISTORY
SIGMA was founded in 1958 in response to the growing need to present and promote the concerns of independent petroleum marketers to government, the public, and the rest of the petroleum industry from a position of collective strength. In more than four decades of industry leadership, SIGMA has significantly advanced the interests of its marketer members through lobbying and political action activities while providing best-of-class information and education.
After nearly two decades of membership growth and increasing involvement in legislative concerns, SIGMA moved to Washington, DC to enhance its ability to meet face to face with influential members of Congress in a timely and regular manner. Leading the industry through every major regulatory and legislative battle facing motor fuel marketers, SIGMA has grown into a well-respected association of some 300 members with a reputation for integrity and excellent leadership.
Our prominent and progressive marketer members now command an impressive 30 percent of the US fuel market. Additionally, SIGMA has expanded its membership to include fuel suppliers, financial service providers and fleet card providers as part of our unique effort to improve relationships between marketers and their suppliers.
SIGMA remains dedicated to fighting for independent marketers on the many issues affecting the motor fuel marketing industry. Reflecting the dedication of the volunteer leadership, our professional staff is committed to providing excellent member services.
